Philippe Ramette
Collection Rue du Regard, INVITÉ #1
This first edition inaugurates the series INVITÉ #1, freely bringing into dialogue works from the Collection Rue du Regard with those of a contemporary artist, in the joyful spirit of encounters that were bound to happen.
INVITÉ #1 features Philippe Ramette’s photographic work Allégorie de la création (2022), alongside a series of previously unseen drawings. Conceived in playful resonance with the sense of absurdity characteristic of Pierre Gassmann’s close friend Henri Cartier-Bresson, these works echo the latter’s witty dedications and mischievous inscriptions in the books and prints he gifted to his peers.
Both corpus of work, where the photographer’s hand takes over in a knowing wink, are brought together here to celebrate a spirit of enlightened playfulness — a taste for irony, humor, reframing, and the absurd. These healthy and invigorating attitudes, so central to Pierre Gassmann’s life, continue to animate Philippe Ramette’s creations.
The Collection Rue du Regard association aims to share the energy and vision of Pierre Gassmann — his way of seeing and living photography — by highlighting the creative, daring, and reciprocal relationship between the printer and the photographer, and the inventive exchanges that shape each image’s emergence.
Collection Rue du Regard
The association Collection Rue du Regard is delighted to present its very first exhibition. Founded by Miriam and Samuel Gassmann, the association seeks to pay tribute to their father, Pierre Gassmann — photographer, exhibition curator, master printer, and founder of the Picto laboratory — who built deep and genuine friendships with some of the greatest photographers of the twentieth century.
