Galerie de l'Institut and Galerie Arenthon are pleased to present in all three of their locations a never-before-seen selection of photographs by Jacqueline Picasso, the last wife of the great artist. Jacqueline's work provides us a deeply intimate view of the creator and his work and invites us into his circle of friends and family.
Jacqueline's photography distinguishes itself from the work done by Picasso’s friends Lucien Clergue and David Douglas Duncan by its perspective of a wife and confidant. Driven by emotion and her close observation rather than pure aesthetic intention, Jacqueline's prints shed light on the artist's magnetism with a certain brute intimacy. We see Picasso, more than seventy years old in most pictures, both working and playing, through Jacqueline's vibrant vision.
Not only do they serve as a fascinating reflection of Picasso's aura, but these pictures presented by the Galerie de l'Institut acquaint us with the artist's inner circle. Whether celebrity friends or progeny, or even his goat and dogs, Jacqueline's invites the viewer into Picasso's bustling entourage. This series of photographs serve as witness to Picasso's almost mythical and unchanging vitality, and to the man himself.
Galerie Arenthon
While specializing in modern engravings, lithographs and rare books, Galerie Arenthon highlights photography of the twentieth and twenty-first century for its participation in PhotoSaintGermain. In this way, the gallery demonstrates the link between photography and the multiples and other works on paper.
